Don't Burn Your Bridges

The other day Edwina said she heard a lot of sirens. Later she said she read that what had happened was that the bridge had caught on fire! I said that was impossible, the bridge was made of concrete and steel, it couldn't have caught on fire. So we took a drive to check it out.

Sure enough, under the concrete there were large wooden beams that were charred. It will be months before the bridge will reopen. The lesson here, of course. . . "don't burn your bridges"!

Scout

Carrie brought her dog "Scout" over today. She had a good time in our yard.
Here she is drinking out of the bird bath.

Goodbye Kay

We found out tonight that our usher for the past five years, Kay,  had passed away in the off season. I was a little concerned when she missed the last few games of last years World Series and another usher had said she was ill. When she wasn't at the home opener Friday or again at the next couple games, I asked the usher if he knew where she was. That's when I learned the bad news.

Above is a photo of Kay at the first ALCS game played in Arlington. Below taking it all in after the Rangers win the 2010 American League Championship a few days later.

One Year Ago

One year ago today my Brother Jim and I landed in Syria. We spent two weeks driving around the country on our own. The "Arab Spring"  had already taken hold in Syria and many had been killed. We had no problem while we were there, but things were starting to get kind of crazy just before we left.
This is a photograph of an oil painting I purchased from a local artist in the "Old City" of Damascus. The Umayyad Mosque, the fourth holiest site in Islam, is prominently featured. We visited this Mosque in the Old City.

Over 10,000 citizens have died in fighting in Syria since we left.

Opening Day

It's Opening Day at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The start of another promising season. It's a beautiful day out here, but after four hours in this sun I will be "toast".
This guy seemed less excited about Opening Day.
